Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program (HRS) is the province's largest residential energy rebate program, offering homeowners thousands of dollars toward energy-efficient upgrades. With the 2026 energy crisis pushing bills to record highs, this program can offset a significant portion of upgrade costs.

Quick Summary

  • Up to $12,000+ in total rebates per household
  • Requires a pre- and post-retrofit energy audit

How to Apply: Step-by-Step

1

Book a Pre-Retrofit Energy Audit

Take our free quiz to get matched with a certified energy advisor in your area. The audit costs $300-600 upfront (you'll get $600 back as a rebate after completion). The advisor will assess your home's current energy performance and recommend upgrades.

2

Get Your EnerGuide Report

After the pre-audit, you'll receive an EnerGuide rating and a list of recommended upgrades ranked by impact. This report is your roadmap — it tells you exactly which upgrades qualify for the highest rebates.

3

Complete Your Upgrades

Hire qualified contractors to perform the recommended upgrades. We can connect you with vetted local contractors through our free quiz. Keep ALL receipts and documentation. Upgrades must be completed by a licensed contractor for most categories.

4

Book a Post-Retrofit Audit

The same energy advisor returns to verify the improvements and issue a new EnerGuide rating. The difference between pre and post ratings determines your final rebate amounts.

5

Submit Your Application

Upload your receipts, audit reports, and contractor documentation through the HRS portal. Rebates are typically processed within 8-12 weeks and deposited directly to your bank account.

How to Stack with Enbridge Rebates

If you're an Enbridge Gas customer, you can apply for both the Ontario HRS program and the Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate for the same upgrades. The two programs are designed to stack.

Stacking Example: Attic Insulation

  • Ontario HRS rebate: $1,250
  • Enbridge rebate: $750
  • Total rebate: $2,000
  • Typical project cost: $2,500-4,000
  • Your net cost: $500-2,000 (50-80% covered)
